The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has ensured the successful hosting of the Global Counter Terrorism Forum (GCTF)- Criminal Justice and Rule of Law (CJ-ROL) Working Group, Review Meeting on the Collection, Use and Sharing of Evidence for the purpose of Criminal Prosecution of Terrorist Suspects, slated for 5-6 June 2018, in Abuja.
The meeting is expected to review specific recommendations arising from the Expert meeting on Evidence held on 13-14 March 2018, at The Hague, Netherlands, with a view to developing the Abuja Good Practice on the Collection, Use and Sharing of Evidence in a counter terrorism context.
Meanwhile, it is hoped that the recommendations on the good practice on evidence will be presented and endorsed at the Global Counter Terrorism Forum (GCTF) Ministerial Plenary Meeting in New York, September 2018.
The Governments of Nigeria and Switzerland are Co-Chairs of the Global Counter Terrorism Forum Criminal Justice and Rule of Law Working Group for 2018-2019. Since the confirmation of the Co-Chairs at the 8th Ministerial Plenary in New York on 20 September 2017 at the side events of the United Nations General Assembly Meeting, a detailed Work Plan has been developed and currently being implemented.
Nigeria is an active and founding member of Global Counter Terrorism Forum (GCTF). GCTF members and non-members are expected to travel to Abuja for the June review meeting.
