Strategic Communication Inter-Agency Policy Committee meets in Abuja

The Strategic Communication Inter-Agency Committee with members from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government, had its first meeting of the year on Tuesday 16 May, 2023 at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Office of the National Security Adviser, Abuja.

In his remarks, the National Coordinator, NCTC, Rear Admiral YEM Musa (rtd)  noted that the meeting was expected to take critical look at the expanded mandate of the Centre as enshrined in the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022 and the need for more coordinated Government Information and Communication Management in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism in Nigeria as stipulated by the National Security Strategy (NSS), 2019.

He added that President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, recently unveiled this State-of-the-Art facility, which houses the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), in further demonstration of the unwavering stance of his administration to combat terrorism, prevent and counter violent extremism in the country.

“This Office and indeed the Federal Government, will not take for granted, your various activities and contributions towards achieving the objectives of setting up this Strategic Committee in compliance with Component Four of the Policy Framework and National Action Plan for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism in Nigeria,” the National Coordinator stressed.

Rear Amiral Musa reiterated that the NCTC was to lead the national efforts to combat terrorism, prevent and counter violent extremism by coordinating and integrating international support with national multi-stakeholders’ joint terrorism analysis, information and intelligence sharing and related activities to implement whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society approaches to secure the national Counter terrorism objectives.
